Ohio Ultimate Prepares For Regionals
< < Back to ohio-ultimate-prepares-regionalsThe Ohio Ultimate team will be competing in the Ohio Valley Regional Tournament on April 26-27 in Toledo, Ohio.
The Bobcats have the fifth seed out of 16 teams, and they were placed into Pool D along with Case Western Reserve, Dayton and Lehigh (B), who are seeded fourth, ninth and 16th, respectively.
The Bobcats have faced both Case Western and Dayton this season already. Ohio lost to Case Western 15-4 and beat Dayton 11-8, both of these contests were at the Ohio Sectionals on April 12-13.
"I'm most excited to play Case Western," team captain Kelley McAndrews said. "They beat an injured and exhausted Ohio team at Sectionals, and I can't wait to show them our full strength squad on Saturday."
The 'Cats have gone 11-12 but have picked up steam, as they went 5-3 in the Ohio Sectional Tournament.
"After coming in third at sectionals, we have a chip on our shoulder and we're hungry to make waves at regionals," McAndrews said. "We are able to win every game in our pool, and I expect that we will."
The top three teams in each pool will advance to the championship bracket, with the first seed getting a first round bye. Outside of Pool D, the Bobcats may have to face some tough competition in the championship bracket. The first seed in the region is Pittsburgh, and they are the two-time defending national champion and are ranked fourth in the nation.
The 'Cats know that this weekend will be tough, but they have a bright outlook.
"The teams we are facing didn’t make it to regionals by being easy to beat," McAndrews said. "Our goal is to get into the finals game and give Pitt a run for their money."
Only the first place finisher on the weekend will advance to play in the College National Tournament on May 23-26.
