Game One:
Marietta staved off a John Carroll comeback, and held on to win, 7-6.
Through seven innings, it seemed like Christian Herstine and Pioneers were in cruise control, up 7-1. John Carroll, however, had different plans. It struck for two runs in the eighth as the Blue Streaks chased Herstine after 7 2/3 innings.
After striking for three in the ninth, John Carroll trailed by just a run with one out and a runner at third. Marietta hurler Mike Fulton buckled down and secured the 7-6 win for the Pioneers.
Herstine collected his seventh win of the season struck out seven. Tyler Packanik led the Marietta offense, going 3 for 4 with two RBI and two runs scored.
Game Two:
In similar fashion, the Pioneers held off a Blue Streak comeback to hang on 6-4 and complete the doubleheader sweep.
Marietta held a 6-2 lead going to the top of the ninth. Jason Byers had given up just two runs through eight innings while striking out two. A third of inning later, Byers gave up two more runs and the Blue Streaks trailed 6-4.
Kordell Antill relieved Byers and recorded his second save of the season by retiring the next two batters.
With the win Byers is now 8-0 on the season.
The Pioneers (25-11, 13-3) have the next six days off until they finish off their conference schedule at Wilmington College with a doubleheader.
