Update: 74-Year-Old Pomeroy Resident Dies In Route 33 Accident

Update 2:10 p.m. Tommy R. Reuter, a 74-year-old from Pomeroy, Ohio, was identified as the man who died in the crash along route 33, according to the Ohio Highway Patrol. Reuter's SUV was hit by an oncoming semi as he was turning onto US 33 from CR 89 around 8:30 a.m. Wednesday morning.

Gilbert Woods, 41, the driver of the semi, was uninjured.


One person is dead after a crash on US 33 in Athens County.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol said Tommy R. Reuter, 74, of Pomeroy died in a crash just after 8:30 a.m. Wednesday in the area of Rainbow Lake Road.

Troopers say a semi driven by Gilbert G. Woods, 41, of Mansfield collided with Reuter's passenger vehicle as it turned onto route 33.

Both vehicles caught fire.

Woods was uninjured.

The road was closed for more than two hours because of the crash and the cleanup.
