Ohio House Bill Addresses Guns On School Grounds
< < Back to ohio-house-bill-addresses-guns-school-groundsAn Ohio House committee has signed off on a bill clarifying that guns legally carried onto the grounds of a school must remain in a locked car.
Ohio law currently says that a person with a concealed-carry license can carry a gun into a school safety zone while dropping off or picking up a student. But there was confusion as to whether the person could legally exit the car with a firearm on their person.
The bill was proposed to avoid the kind of scene that occurred at a school in suburban Columbus in January.
A parent called police after she saw another parent get out of a car with a gun on him. That led to the school being locked down.
