‘The Dairy Barn’ Celebrates 100 Years
< < Back toExecutive Director Jane Forrest Redfern tells the story of The Dairy Barn Arts Center in Athens, which is celebrating its 100th anniversary in 2014.
The Dairy Barn was almost closed in the 1970s, but a community group successfully petitioned the governor to keep it open and then the barn changed its focus to an arts center. The Dairy Barn now makes up 5,423 square feet of “gallery space in addition to a gallery shop, offices, and five spacious rooms for arts classes and community events.”
From the center’s website:
The Dairy Barn Arts Center is one of Southeast Ohio’s premiere art galleries, drawing nearly 15,000 visitors to the region every year. It is The Dairy Barn Arts Center’s mission to: offer exhibitions, events, and educational programs that nurture and promote area artists and artisans; develop art appreciation among all ages; provide the community access to fine arts and crafts from outside the region; and draw attention and visitors to Southeast Ohio.
The center is open 12-5 p.m. on Monday through Wednesday and Friday and Saturday, and it is open from 12-8 p.m. on Thursdays.
The video is produced by Emmy-nominated producer Evan Shaw and is part of a seven-part series highlighting important spots in Athens County and is supported by the Athens County Convention & Visitor’s Bureau
