Crash Claims Jackson Teen’s Life

The Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating a one vehicle fatal crash that occurred at 10:09 p.m. on Tuesday. The crash happened on State Route 139, south of State Route 32.
The Patrol reports that 19-year-old William J. Spires, of Jackson, was driving a 2008 Hyundai southbound on State Route 139, when he lost control of his vehicle and went off the right side of the roadway striking a guardrail. His vehicle then went off the left side of the roadway striking a guardrail and a tree. He was pronounced dead at the scene by the Jackson County Coroner.
A passenger, 19-year-old Steven Thomas Kearns, of Jackson, was seriously injured and taken to Holzer Hospital by Jackson County EMS.
The Jackson Fire Department, Jackson County EMS, Jackson County Sheriff’s Office, Highway Patrol Reconstruction Unit and the Department of Transportation were all on scene.
State Route 139 was closed for approximately three hours.
The crash remains under investigation.
