Bobcats Rebound, Sweep Green Bay
< < Back to bobcats-rebound-sweep-green-bayThe Ohio volleyball team bounced back from Thursday's five-set loss to Northwestern, sweeping the Green Bay Phoenix (25-18, 25-12, 25-23) to split their pair of matches at the Wildcat Challenge in Evanston, Ill.
The Bobcats (7-4) took control of the match early, posting a 6-0 to start the first set and gaining a 9-3 lead. Green Bay (2-8) would struggle to cut the lead and never got closer than four points as Ohio took the first set by seven.
The Phoenix found some renewed energy in set two. The two teams battled back and forth with Green Bay coming within one point halfway through the set, 11-10. Then the Bobcats' offense went on the prowl, going on a 14-2 run and leaving the Phoenix in the dust by the end of set two.
In the third set, Green Bay strung together a valiant effort but fell by 2 points to the strong Bobcat offense. Leading the way for the Bobcats was veteran outside hitter Kelly Lamberti, who recorded 19 kills, six digs and three blocks. Fellow senior Hannah Burkle posted 11 kills and four blocks.
Ohio will open MAC play Sept. 25 against Kent State at 7 p.m. in the Convocation Center.
