Week 8 Power Rankings: West Virginia
< < Back to week-8-power-rankings-west-virginia1) Point Pleasant Big Blacks (8-0)
Everything is going well in Point Pleasant as the Big Blacks are coming off a 37-20 victory over a then-undefeated Ravenswood. With the victory, the Big Blacks are second in the WVSSCAC Class AAA rankings. The Big Blacks put their perfect record on the line next week when Shady Spring comes to visit.
2) Parkersburg South Patriots (5-2)
After a Week 6 stomping by Point Pleasant, the Patriots have righted the ship. Back-to-back wins over John Marshall and Brooke has moved Mike Eddy’s Patriots into 10th in the WVSSCAC Class AAA rankings. In the past two weeks, the Patriots have outscored their opponents 59-26. After just two wins in 2013, the Patriots are looking towards the postseason, but a trip to Greenbrier East on Friday comes first.
3) Williamstown Yellow Jackets (5-2)
To say the Yellow Jackets put the hurt on Wirt County last week would be an understatement. With the 72-8 victory, the Williamstown offense led by QB Dakota Watson put the critics to rest. The victory moved the Yellow Jackets into 11th place in Class A in the WVSSCAC rankings. Watson and the rejuvenated Williamstown offense play host to the third Parkersburg team, Parkersburg Catholic, on Friday.
4) Parkersburg Big Red (3-4)
Huntington made easy work of the Big Red defense Friday with a 41-6 victory over the Big Reds. It was the fourth time this season that the Big Reds defense has given up at least 41+ points. Despite a struggling defense, the Big Reds are ranked 21st in the WVSSCAC Class AAA rankings. Parkersburg slim chances at a playoff birth are put on the line as they travel to George Washington for a clash with the Patriots.
