The Belpre Golden Eagles (7-2, 5-2) are on the cusp of a playoff run as a match-up with Waterford (2-7, 2-5) awaits.

The Golden Eagles are currently ninth in division six’s region 21, one spot behind Oak Hill. A win against the Wildcats could put them into that eighth and final playoff spot.

Waterford sits near the bottom of the conference rankings, but Belpre head coach Greg Adams said that they aren’t expecting this game to be handed to them.

“Our practice will be like all of our practices since our season started,” Adams said. “We don’t ever take any of the games we play for granted. We’ll work hard this week,”

Adams may be cautious, but the numbers all indicate Belpre’s position as the favorite. In their wins, Belpre outscores opponents by an average of 25 points, adding up to a total of 273-221. On the other hand, the Wildcats have lost their games by an average of 22 points, getting outscored 241-113.

Where Belpre has shocked many is with its success fielding a youthful roster. The roster lists only one senior: Manney Tullius.

“It’s been a pleasure as a coach to have a young man like him step up and lead this team to success,” Adams said.

The push for the playoffs will begin at 7:30 from Waterford.
