Week 9 Power Rankings: West Virginia
< < Back to1) Point Pleasant Big Blacks (9-0) | Last Week: 1st
The Big Blacks finished their perfect season with a 64-0 dismantling of Shady Spring in Week 9. The win marks Point Pleasant’s second-straight season without a regular season loss. They now sit at No. 4 in the Class AAA rankings. Without a game this week, the Big Blacks will be looking ahead to the playoffs, and hoping to make an even longer run than a season ago, when they made it all the way to the state semifinals.
2) Parkersburg South Patriots (6-2) | Last Week: 2nd
The Patriots solidified their place in the second spot with a 59-34 victory over Greenbrier East last week. This win marks the third in a row for Parkersburg South, and puts them No. 8 in Class AAA with playoffs just a couple of weeks away. The Patriots will look to move up in the rankings this week, as Wheeling Park comes into town.
3) Williamstown Yellow Jackets (6-2) | Last Week: 3rd
Williamstown now has two straight wins after they outplayed Parkersburg Catholic for a 42-6 victory. Quarterback Dakota Watson led the way, contributing on all six of his teams’ touchdowns in the game. The victory moves the Yellow Jackets into the No. 9 spot in the Class A rankings. The Yellow Jackets travel to Ritchie County this week in an attempt to move further up in the rankings.
4) Parkersburg Big Reds (4-4) | Last Week: 4th
The Big Reds kept their fading playoff hopes alive last week with 27-24 win over George Washington in triple-overtime. Quarterback Josh Trembly and running back Corey Burdette led their team throughout the game as the Big Reds had to fight back from deficits late in the fourth quarter, and in the third overtime. The Big Reds are still fighting for their place in the playoffs, as they currently sit in No. 18 in Class AAA. They will have a chance to gain some ground this week when they host the winless Riverside Warriors.
