Two schools will likely close now that Monroe County voters rejected their income tax levy.

The Switzerland of Ohio Local School District Income Tax Levy failed 3,132- 1,946.

As a result of the failure, Swiss Hills Career Center and Powhatan Elementary School both will close for the 2015-16 school year. These closures will save over $270,000 annually.

Although the Switzerland Levy didn’t pass, large levies including the Board of Developmental Disabilities Levy, OSU Extension Tax Levy, and Senior Center Tax Levy all passed.

Other big races included county commissioner, Judge of the Common Pleas (Probate Division), and State Representative (96th District).

Mick Schumacher (R) won county commissioner, beating Incumbent John V. Pyles (D) and Randy Williams (unaffiliated) with 2,592 votes.

James W. Peters (D) won Judge of the Common Pleas (Probate Division), beating Incumbent Clifford N. Sickler (R) with nearly 3,000 votes.

Jack Cera (D) won State Representative (96th District), beating Ron Ferguson (R) with just over 3,000 votes.
