Athens County Commisioners will meet with an organization planning to build a new affordable housing project in the Plains on Thursday.

The Frontier Community hopes to get a recommendation letter that they will send with their application to the state. The organization's plan is to build an apartment building, for residents who earn less than sixty percent of the county's median income.

The application will be submitted by February. Rodney Siddons, a Frontier Community Service representatve said, the earliest the applacation would be approved would be in June. From there a process of approving the mortgages would begin and take anywhere from six to eight months. Once this is done it will still take the company about a year to construct the building.

The organization has been given the option of 11 acres at 100 N Plains Road, currrently the space is occupied by a vacant house and three trailers, one occupied and two are not.

The estimated cost for the project is just over $11 million.
