Public officials and others can now take an online training course to learn about Ohio's open records and open meeting laws.

Ohio Attorney General Mike DeWine said Monday the three-hour, in-person training course has been broken into 13 web videos that users could complete online on their own time.

Each lesson in the free course combines a video with a short quiz covering topics under the laws, such as what is a public record and what qualifies as appropriate redactions. Users must watch each lesson and correctly answer the quiz questions to complete the training.

DeWine says he hopes the videos will allow more officials, journalists and others the flexibility to complete the courses. His office will continue to hold in-person regional training sessions throughout the state.
