OU Employee Dies In Accident

An Ohio University employee died Friday morning after being struck by a vehicle on State Route 681.
According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol (OHSP), Shane Gilkey, 48, was out of his vehicle helping another motorist when he was struck and killed by a car traveling westbound.
According to OSHP the accident happened just after 8 a.m. about two miles outside of Albany near the Meigs County line.
The driver of the vehicle, Cynthia Wasson, 61, was taken to O’Bleness Hospital with non-incapacitating injuries, according to the media release from the patrol.
In a statement, the university says it is “saddened as a community” to learn of Gilkey’s passing. He was an assistant vice president for research at OU.
The accident remains under investigation.
