Name Change Among Ideas Raised At University Of Akron
< < Back toThe president of the University of Akron says changing its name is among the ideas being considered in the school’s strategic planning.
A statement this week from President Scott Scarborough said participants in planning sessions have brainstormed many ideas for the university. Those included a possible name change intended to, as Scarborough put it, “reflect its unique strengths in polytechnical and professional fields, along with career-focused applied learning.”
Scarborough’s statement didn’t include potential new names. He isn’t commenting further about the possibility.
A spokesman for the Board of Regents tells the Northeast Ohio Media Group that lawmakers would have to approve any name change because public university titles are established by Ohio statute.
