Ohio Company To Fly Drone To Help Farmers Monitor Crops
< < Back toAnother southwestern Ohio company will be allowed to fly a drone commercially in U.S. airspace under a waiver by the Federal Aviation Administration.
The FAA granted 3D Aerial Solutions LLC permission to fly a mini-drone over Ohio farms this spring to help farmers monitor crop health.
The Dayton Daily News reports that 3D Aerial Solutions will fly a 1.5 pound unmanned aerial vehicle that costs about $30,000. Company officials say the collected data could tell farmers which crops need more fertilizer or pesticides and help predict yields, among other things.
The FAA gave permission last year to Woolpert Inc. in the Dayton suburb of Beavercreek to fly aerial surveying and mapping missions.
The companies are among only a few around the country to gain FAA permission.
