The matriarchs are in town for Ohio University’s Moms Weekend, and Athens bars and restaurants are ready for them.

Beer cheese soups, prime rib burgers and rainbow shots are on tap at The Pub, 39 N. Court St., said manager Ed Cranford

It’s a big weekend, Cranford said, and the bar braces for it before it heads into May when business slows down because of graduation.

Cranford estimated 70 percent of the moms who will come to The Pub this weekend are alumni.

“We have the best Bloody Mary’s and the hospitality is great here,” he claimed. “We’ll make whatever drinks they ask for.”

Moms spending time at Casa Nueva, 6 W. State St., can expect lots of music and dancing, said Sarah Slater, food coordinator.

Saturday is Hip Hop Night with Tino, Doxcity Live and DysFunktional Family, beginning at 10:30 p.m.

“We just always try to be as ready as we can be,” Slater said. “We’re going on 30 years of business and Moms Weekend is always one of our busiest weekends in the spring. Moms have a lot of fun when they’re here.”

Over on West Union Street, Jackie O’s Brewpub will host Beatles tribute band Lennon Orchestra. The show starts 10 p.m. on Saturday.

The Public House will have a limited menu this year of chicken curry, vegetable curry and salad, Stowe said.

“We love when the moms come around,” he said. “It’s fun, everyone gets excited about it and the Lennon Orchestra is a big draw for us.”.
