For the second time this season, Ohio and Marshall were tied up in the final two innings of their matchup. And for the second time, a Bobcat hitter had the bases loaded and produced a bases-clearing hit to give his team a win. On Wednesday, Jake Madsen was the hero with a three-run double that helped the ‘Cats to a 4-2 win.

Madsen was a one-man wrecking crew in the Bobcats’ victory, as he had three hits and drove in every Ohio (18-12, 5-4) run.

With one out and runners on second and third, Marshall (9-22) opted to intentionally walk Mitch Longo to get to the Bobcats’ first baseman. Fortunately for Ohio, he made The Herd pay.

The scenario played out much like the Bobcats’ first win over Marshall at home, in which the visitors walked Madsen to load the bases and to get to Tyler Wells, who hit a base-clearing triple.

Marshall kept it interesting in the bottom of the ninth with a run scored, but Logan Cozart earned his sixth save of the year to give the Bobcats a season sweep of their cross-river rivals.

The ‘Cats struck first in the third inning with a sacrifice fly from Madsen.

The Green and White sent nine pitchers to the mound on Wednesday, and all nine put in an inning of work. Tom Colletti, Corey Wells, and Christian Botter recorded perfect innings. Christian Botter and David Hamlett didn’t allow a hit, and Logan Jacik, Evan Geist and Jeremy Cronk kept the Thundering Herd scoreless.

Tyler Finkler manned the fourth inning and allowed a run to score on an RBI double from Andrew Dundon.

Finkler and Hamlett, typically infielders, logged their first college innings on the mound.

Manny DeJesus singled twice and scored after each hit.

Madsen’s ninth-inning double was his 10th of the year, which leads the team. His .351 batting average and 26 RBIs are second only to Longo’s .367 average and 27 RBIs.

Ohio is off until Friday, when it will start a three-game home series with the Bowling Green Falcons. First pitch for game one is set for 4 p.m. from Bob Wren Stadium.
