New Art Gallery Opens in The Plains
< < Back to new-art-gallery-opens-in-the-plainsThe Plains is now home to a new art gallery, which is currently selling primarily archival work from local artist Kevin Morgan.
Michael and Patti McSteen of Athens purchased the building at 108 N. Plains Road in 2013 and have slowly been renovating the space to house Another Fool’s Gallery. The space had been used as a shoe repair shop for years before the McSteens purchased it.
Michael McSteen is Morgan’s project manager and said he wanted to provide a space to sell Morgan’s posters and other work so that Morgan can focus more on his true passion — painting. Morgan’s work can be seen all over Athens and beyond on local food labels (Frog Ranch Salsa, Snowville Creamery milk, etc.) and event posters (Ohio Pawpaw Festival, Ohio Brew Week, Athens Halloween Block Party and more).
While the gallery is mostly comprised of Morgan’s work, McSteen wants to reach out to other local artists as well to sell their work and even help them design websites.
McSteen said that many artists have day jobs and that he essentially works as a middleman between artists and buyers to get art in the hands of the people.
The gallery also offers concert posters, some antiques and collectibles and will also include locally made gifts in the near future.
Another Fool’s Gallery opened on Memorial Day and will host a grand opening on June 27. Summer hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday-Friday.
