Robbery Reported at Hocking Valley Bank
< < Back to robbery-reported-at-hocking-valley-bankThe Athens County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a reported armed robbery at Hocking Valley Bank in The Plains.
At approximately 8:20 a.m., a white male reportedly walked into the bank armed with a handgun, according to Athens County Sheriff Rodney Smith.
After allegedly robbing the bank, the suspect fled down Hartman Road and into the woods, Smith said.
The suspect is describes at 5 feet 7 inches tall, approximately 200 lbs. He is believed to be in his mid-50s and left the bank wearing camouflage pants, a green hoodie, a green baseball cap and sunglasses.
The amount of money allegedly taken is undisclosed, Smith said.
A canine unit from the Ohio State Highway Patrol was called, along with units from the Major Crimes Unit. The Bureau of Criminal Investigation and the FBI have been contacted in reference to the alleged crime.
The male suspect is believed to be the only person involved in the incident.
Smith said there is no immediate danger to the public, and the investigation is ongoing.
