Athens Residents Warned of Scam
< < Back to athens-residents-warned-on-scamAthens Police Chief Tom Pyle released a statement yesterday warning citizens of Athens to be aware of a water bill scam believed to be circulating through the city.
Pyle says the department received information of a scam in which a person calls a business or residence claiming their last water bill was rejected. To avoid termination of service, the person is instructed to pay money to a technician supposedly coming to shut the water off.
Pyle says he has no information on an actual “technician” coming to collect money on the recent incident reported.
In the press release Pyle advises people to give no payment information to anyone who should arrive subsequent after a call of this nature.
Anyone who receives a call regarding this scam, contact the Athens Police Department at (740) 592-3315.
