Miller Has All the Tools For Success in 2015
< < Back to miller-has-all-the-tools-for-success-in-2015The Miller Falcons have turned the page. Last season’s disappointing one-win finish is a thing of the past and the team is excited about its chances for gridiron success in 2015. With a slew of returning contributors, coach Sean Bartley has the potential to have the Falcons flying high this fall.
Miller returns senior running back Kody McKinniss. After a strong 2014 campaign in which he led the team in rushing with over 900 yards, McKinniss is sure to be a focal point of the offense.
Junior Cole Geil should get the nod at quarterback and solidify the position in 2015. Geil played a solid amount under center as a sophomore and he’s looking to build on that experience. Geil has the utmost confidence in his squad and stated the team has very high expectations this year.
“We are as talented as any team in the district this year,” Geil said. “Our overall team attitude is much improved and we are also a much more mature team this year with leadership on and off the field.”
Geil’s confidence in the upcoming season is also reflected in the confidence in his own abilities.
“I think I can step up because I’ve been working with my backs and receivers since winter and I feel really comfortable with the team we have,” he said.
Defense should be a strong suit for the 2015 Falcons. They return a strong defensive core from last year, most notably McKinniss, who may be playing on both sides of the ball this season. The team anticipates that younger defensive players will step up, specifically sophomore Seattle Compston. Compston made a lot of plays on the defensive side of the ball last season and will anchor the defense at middle linebacker this fall.
“This year’s attitude is 100 percent different from last year’s attitude,” he said. “This year we know that we can accomplish great things. We have as much talent as all the other teams in the district this year. If we all just come together and play as a team, I think the expectations are limitless.”
The Falcons will open their season on the road Aug. 28 at Waterford. The game will kick off at 7:30 p.m.
