Ohio Volleyball Sweeps to First Win
< < Back to ohio-volleyball-sweeps-to-first-winOhio Bobcat volleyball started its season off with a win Friday afternoon at the Mortar Board Premier. The ‘Cats clinched all three sets against Austin Peay (25-17, 25-16, 25-23).
In the first set, senior and two-time MAC player of the year, Abbey Gilleland had eight assists. Sophomore Jamie Kosiorek had five kills alone in the first set. She tacked on another nine by the end of the game.
In the second set, Kosiorek tabbed six kills, freshman Katie Nelson had five and Gilleland claimed 10 more assists.
The match was Nelson’s college debut, and the right-side hitter had a total of nine kills and five blocks.
Late in the third set the Bobcats trailed 15-14 until redshirt senior Shelby Walker entered the game and helped lift her squad to a 17-16 advantage with three straight kills.
Defensively, junior Mallory Salis led the team with 16 total digs. Junior Aubree Hord clocked four aces for the Bobcats
Overall, the Green and White trailed the Governors just three times in the entire match.
Ohio will be back on the court when it takes on Virginia Commonwealth University on Saturday at 1 p.m.
