It was first game and first win of the season for Ohio Bobcat field hockey, as they traveled to Loretto, Penn., to come away with a 2-0 win against Saint Francis on Friday.

In a quick start to the game, Kristen Buchanan took the ball for herself and played it down the field in less than three minutes on the turf; Samantha Zeiders, the home team’s goalie, made the save, but the ‘Cats struck back too rapidly as Adele Sammons assisted a shot to Clarissa Leickly to give Ohio a 1-0 lead with just 3:14 into the game.

After a quick first goal, the Bobcats second goal came more than 43 minutes later. The ‘Cats scored their final goal of the night on an assist by Leickly and a shot by Maria Russell.

Nearly 12 minutes into the game, and a few substitutions on Saint Francis’s end, Selena Adamshick took her first attempt at scoring, but her shot was too wide. The Bobcats were back on the offensive and Sammons took a shot, but Zeiders made the save.

The game continued for nearly 30 more minutes with seven shots from Saint Francis, but none hit their mark as Lina Trucco made four saves and three shots went wide.

In the final 26 minutes of the game, Ohio got off three more shots to Saint Francis’s two.

After Ohio’s first score, freshmen Emma Eggleston and Illona Hartman were subbed in to make their college debuts.

A season ago the Bobcats notched their first win in game four, but in a new campaign they’re already in the win column.

Ohio continues their road trip in Pennsylvania in a showdown with Lock Haven. The game is set for an 11 a.m. start on Sunday.
