DAYTON, Ohio (AP) – Dennis Greene, a founding member of the Sha Na Na doo-wop singing group and a University of Dayton law professor, has died. He was 66.
Greene’s nephew says his uncle died Saturday at a Columbus hospital after a brief illness.
Greene performed with Sha Na Na at Woodstock in 1969 and sang with the group in the 1978 movie “Grease.”
Nephew Edward Robinson said Thursday that the New York City native left the group in 1984 and worked several years as a Columbia Pictures vice president. He said Greene appreciated opportunities gained through his music career but law was his passion.
Greene began teaching at UD in 2001.
Funeral services set for Sept. 19 at Church of the Immaculate Conception in New York City will be open to the public.
