COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) – Could there be a milder winter ahead for Ohio?

That’s the prediction by The National Weather Service and AccuWeather. Both are calling for a warmer-than-average winter – December through February – with below-average snowfall.

That would be a relief to Ohioans worn out by below-average temperatures and lots of snow the past two winters.

Paul Pastelok, a senior meteorologist for AccuWeather, tells The Columbus Dispatch that the southern jet stream should be more dominant because of a strong El Nino brewing in the Pacific Ocean. That means Arctic air masses will be less frequent.

The Old Farmer’s Almanac, however, predicts that this winter will be colder and slightly drier than normal, but with above-average snowfall, for the Ohio Valley region.
