Gilbert Selected as Marshall University President
< < Back to gilbert-selected-as-marshall-university-presidentHUNTINGTON, W.Va. (AP) – Mississippi State University provost and executive vice president Jerome Gilbert is the 37th president of Marshall University.
Marshall announced Gilbert’s appointment Tuesday, a day after its Board of Governors made the selection. He will begin his new role in January.
Gilbert was chosen over two other finalists: Oregon Institute of Technology President Christopher Maples and University of Southern Mississippi marine science professor Denis Wiesenburg.
The state Higher Education Policy Commission must approved Gilbert’s appointment and contract.
Gary White has served as Marshall’s interim president since last December following the death of President Stephen Kopp. The 63-year-old Kopp died on Dec. 17, 2014.
