With Logan running for playoff hopes and Gallia Academy playing for pride on its senior night, it was destined to be a good one.

The Chieftains (7-2, 1-1), however, would not let the Blue Devils maintain their winning ways after trumping Gallia Academy (1-8, 1-1)) 48-13.

After Logan lost two consecutive games, the Chieftains wanted to use Friday’s game to get down to the nitty gritty. Little did Logan know, the Blue Devils weren’t going down without a fight.

Logan sought to set a physical tone early, calling runs on eight of its first 10 plays and eventually leading to a Jeremy Minor rushing score.

This gave Logan a chance to bury Gallia Academy early, but the Blue Devils punched right back. Kole Carter hit Devin Henry for a 59-yard score to tie things up at seven.

Proceedings became even more dramatic later in the quarter, starting with a Logan three-and-out. Logan’s punt smacked off of a Gallia Academy player and the Cheiftains pounced on the fumble to start anew with prime field position.

Logan took advantage. Lane Little connected with Isaiah Smith for 29 yards to put the Chieftains ahead 13-7, but Carter quickly struck again to knot it up at 13.

What was shaping to be a tightly-contested game was then abruptly broken wide open.

Logan needed only 20 seconds to go 37 yards to score and bring proceedings to 21-13. Cole Walsh then took back a punt return all the way to raise Logan’s advantage to 15 points, putting the game out of reach and subduing any Gallia Academy upset hopes.

Logan’s win has highlighted not only by special teams play, but a hefty amount of trash talk. Referees delayed the beginning of the game due to a scuffle between the two sides and more scuffling ensued early on. All in all, four ejections were handed out.

Both teams will finish out their regular seasons with SEOAL match-ups. Gallia Academy will face Jackson and Logan will host Warren.
