COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) – A former leader of two closed Ohio charter schools has been found guilty of depositing checks intended for school expenses into his personal bank account.

The Columbus Dispatch reports a jury on Friday convicted Andre Tucker of two counts of theft. A judge says Tucker will likely get probation but could also receive jail time when he’s sentenced in two weeks.

Prosecutors said Tucker stole $7,500 from two Columbus charter schools. They said he used some of the money to pay rent and student loans.

Tucker’s lawyer says her client tried to keep running the charter schools after his sponsor voted to close them.
