No. 8 South Gallia entered Friday’s game in search of its first ever playoff victory. The Rebels would need to pull off a monumental upset over No. 1 Danville to make that happen.

Unfortunately for the Rebels, Goliath defeated David as the Rebels fell 63-0 to end their season.

Danville came out firing and took control of the game from the get-go.  After receiving the opening kickoff, the Blue Devils put together a three-play, 75 yard touchdown drive to give them a 7-0 lead.

The drive set the tone for the entire game.

Danville quarterback Ridge Durbin shredded South Gallia’s defense to the tune of 284 yards and five touchdowns on 25-of-30 passing. Consider that in addition to 72 yards on the ground and the Rebels had no solution to slow down Durbin and company.

Cal Honabarger and Kenton Mickley were the top beneficiaries of Durbin’s monster performance through the air.  Both Honaberger and Mickley finished with 114 receiving yards each.  Mickley piled up 10 catches and two touchdowns while Honabarger caught eight passes, three of which went for scores.

While Danville prospered, a usually potent South Gallia offense fell flat. The Rebel offensive line had no push upfront, causing the run game to suffer and quarterback Landon Hutchinson to scramble to make plays.

Combine those factors with two turnovers and the Rebels were unable to pick up any momentum. In total, South Gallia finished with just 96 total offense.

The Rebels finished their season with a 6-5 record while the Blue Devils improve to 11-0.  Danville will take on Harvest Prep next week in the second round of D-VII, region 25 play.
