OU Seniors Featured at Annual Dance Concert Nov. 19-21
< < Back toThe Division of Dance at Ohio University will present its annual senior dance concert, Senior Worx, featuring work by Senior BFA candidates completing their capstone in dance performance and choreography, Nov. 19-21.
Senior Worx contains two group pieces, two solos, and two collaborative works with students from Factory Street Dance Studio.
In her solo work, Dear, Allison Bradley explores the body’s response to vulnerable situations. Bradley investigates the sensation of getting caught in the vulnerable, child-like world of make-believe, by examining internal imagery and its manifestations into the external world through abstract movement.
Najah Braswell investigates concepts of assimilation and authenticity, and their effects on identity and performance in her solo work In Pursuance. This work deals with the personal experiences, daily perceptions, and interactions of an American black woman.
Choreographed by Jon Lawson, CrashCaught is a dance work inspired by the experience of being raised by industrial workers in a town heavily affected by the 2008 economic crash. CrashCaught explores the physicality of falling as a propelling force for locomotion.
State of Flux, choreographed by Grace Nicklos, explores the human need for security and the support of others in times of vulnerability. Movements of release, tension, and rebound will illuminate the fallible relationship we all share with stability and instability.
The shows will take place Nov. 19, 20 and 21 at 7 p.m. and 9 p.m. in the Shirley Wimmer Dance Theater, located in Putnam Hall. Tickets are $8 and free for Ohio University students with a valid student ID.
