Rob Garofalo was devastated: He’d built his medical career on helping AIDS patients, and then after being raped he learned that he, too, was HIV-positive. Nothing helped him heal emotionally until he found Fred, a Yorkshire terrier. The dog made him “re-engage with the world,” which led to creation of a charity and now a photo exhibit of HIV-positive people and their canine rescuers: “When Dogs Heal.”
