WAVERLY, Ohio (AP) – A $100,000 bond has been set for a sheriff’s deputy accused of fatally shooting a neighbor at the deputy’s southern Ohio home.

A judge set Joel Jenkins’ bond on Monday in a Pike County court. Jenkins is charged with involuntary manslaughter in the death of 40-year-old Jason Brady. A message seeking comment on Jenkins’s behalf was left at his attorney’s office Tuesday.

Pike County Sheriff Charles Reader has said that he fired Jenkins in the wake of Thursday’s shooting. He said Jenkins was off-duty at the time of the shooting.

Authorities say Jenkins called the sheriff’s office late Thursday and told a dispatcher his gun had misfired and that his neighbor had been shot accidentally. The sheriff’s office says Brady was found fatally shot at Jenkins’ home in Waverly.
