Mid December Means No Skiing at Ohio’s Resorts

HUDSON, Ohio (AP) — A relatively warm December is keeping Ohio’s ski resorts closed and skiers watching the weather forecasts.
Ski resorts can’t even make artificial snow until the temperature drops below 35. Snow guns become more efficient at 28 degrees.
This weather this weekend will be more suited for golf. Expected highs will be 60s throughout the state Saturday and Sunday.
Ricky McMullin, a spokesman for Peak Resorts, which owns Boston Mills, Brandywine and Alpine Valley in northeast Ohio, tells cleveland.com (http://bit.ly/1SSQ8Sy ) that the resorts are “ready to go as soon as Mother Nature cooperates.” He declined to comment on a snow-making efforts or a possible opening day for 2015.
Joe Sullivan with the Suburban Ski Club in northeast Ohio says most clubs don’t plan their trips until after the holidays, anyway.
