Offense was hard to come by in the Nelsonville-York Lady Buckeyes’ home game against River Valley. That is except for Jessie Addis who poured in 21 points leading the Lady Buckeyes to a 43-31 win.

Addis dropped 16 points in the first half alone making 7 of 11 shots compared to the rest of team, which went 0 for 19 in the game’s first 16 minutes.

River Valley (7-6, 3-3) came out of the break double-teaming Addis the entire third quarter, holding her scoreless. A few shots started falling for the rest of the team though giving Nelsonville-York a nine-point lead entering the fourth quarter.

Despite the double-digit win, the Lady Buckeyes (9-3, 5-1) only made 15 shots on 49 attempts from the field. They pulled out the win to snap their two-game losing streak taking advantage of River Valley’s sloppy play.

The Lady Vikings turned the ball over 23 times due partly to NY’s physical defense but mainly for lazy passing to players who simply weren’t open.

River Valley tried to force passes in lanes that Nelsonville-York had already cut off giving the Lady Buckeyes and Addis easy layups off turnovers. Nelsonville-York finished the game with 11 steals while having less than 10 turnovers.

Action picks up again for the Lady Buckeyes on Jan. 11 when they travel to the Plains to take on the Athens Lady Bulldogs (1-10, 1-5).
