Coming off of a win against Federal Hocking, the Eastern Eagles carried their momentum into tonight’s rivalry game. Eastern defeated the Southern Tornadoes on the road tonight 54-44.

The Eagles came out tonight and showed they were going to put up a fight. They started off strong tonight as they strived to make each possession count. They made smart passes and executed on offense to snag the lead 26-19 at halftime. After halftime, Eastern held onto the lead for the remainder of the game.

Dillon Swatzel was the leader tonight, as he dropped 21 points and had 5 rebounds. Jett Facemeyer also made a large contribution scoring 17 points tonight and also had 5 rebounds. Although this game was definitely a battle, Eastern took control and put pressure on Southern’s offense which consequently worked to Eastern’s advantage.

Starting out the season 0-9, Eastern has shown profound improvement and is looking like a whole new team. Tonight, the team dynamic seemed to be a strong point for the Eagles. Their defense took control tonight. They were very aggressive, and put pressure that forced Southern to take shots.

After the game, Coach Jeremy Hill mentioned that tonight was a game of many firsts for the Eagles. Coach Hill has been at Eastern for two and a half years, and today was the first time the boys have had a two game win streak under Hill. This is also their first win on the road since Hill’s tenure.

It was definitely a big night for Eastern as the team has made huge strides and is obviously gaining maturity and developing confidence following their newly obtained win streak. Eastern hopes to continue improving and have many more “firsts” in the remainder of the season and accurately display their hard work.

Coach Hill said there is no time for celebrating, because they are now onto preparing for their next game against Miller on Jan. 15th. Eastern is hoping to keep its winning streak alive against Miller, keeping this win streak alive.
