Ohio Wrestling to Take on Northern Illinois Friday
< < Back to ohio-wrestling-to-take-on-northern-illinois-fridayOhio (6-3, 1-3) will take on Northern Illinois (5-5, 0-2) in a conference match Friday.
Ohio lost its last conference match against Kent State, but the Bobcats bounced back in their next match, dominating in a non-conference meet against Clarion 40-4.
While the ‘Cats dominated in their last match, Northern Illinois had two close matches. The Huskies won their last match against the Citadel with a final score of 24-19 and also won against Southern Illinois Edwardsville 19-18 the week before. The Huskies will need more than luck to pull out a third consecutive win.
“It comes down to match ups a little bit and how you wrestle that day” Coach Greenie said.“It’s important to be consistent, and it’s important to win the matches you’re suppose to win”
Ohio’s Phil Wellington knows exactly what Coach Greenie means by the importance of winning a match that you’re suppose to win.
Wellington, ranked 14th in the nation, and huskie Shawn Scott, ranked 16th in the nation, faced off against each other in last year’s match with the result of Wellington winning 7-3.
Wellington was not the only one that took home a win last year for the Bobcats. Heavyweight Jesse Webb won his match as well.
“Yeah, I think I won 4-2 in last year’s match,” Webb stated. “For me individually, I’ve already had a lot of close Mac losses, so to wrestle someone I’ve already beaten will be solidifying”.
After losing his last two matches, Webb says he has been working hard on his skills and hopes to put them to the test this weekend.
Webb said, “I think I’ll be ready this weekend”.
