Nelsonville-York High School named their new football coach for the 2016 season: Rusty Richards. After 48 applications, one being from India, the N-Y School Board believed Richards to be the best fit for their historic program.

Over 45 seasons, the Buckeyes have only employed three full-time coaches, all three falling in the same family tree. Dave Boston Sr. lead the way until 1992 until his son-in-law, Kevin Meade took over for ten years. Dave Boston Jr. took over in 2003 and won seven Tri-Valley Conference titles, made the playoffs eight times and boasted an 86-46 record.

“Why wouldn’t I want to coach here? It’s an honor to follow the Bostons and build on their success. I look forward to getting started,” Richards said.

Richards, a 7th grade history teacher for Nelsonville-York, taught the kids he is now about to coach.

“I know the kids, and that’s a plus,” Richards said.
