Richardson, Howard Help Alexander Top Athens

Alexander used the night to honor its eight seniors on the team. Two seniors stood out for the Spartans on the night.
Seth Richardson notched 22 points and three steals. Richardson went 6 for 6 from the free throw line. Kyle Howard also contributed with 13 points and an assist. Howard’s performance was especially felt on defense, snagging six steals, and he scored off of every steal.
The prior matchup between the two teams saw Athens beating Alexander 59-40. However, the win was due in large part to Griffin Lutz nearly recorded himself a triple-double. The Bulldogs were not able to capitalize on offense, shooting 37 percent.
Athens managed to make a late push in the second quarter, but Alexander hit 3-pointers on three consecutive possessions. The Bulldogs shot 8 for 15.
Alexander’s next play comes in the postseason. The No. 4 seeded Spartans play No. 13 River Valley on Feb. 16. Depending on the outcome of the Vinton County vs. Meigs game tomorrow night, Alexander could share a piece of the TVC Ohio title.
Athens will face Nelsonville-York Feb. 13 at home in its last regular season game.
