Team Effort in Spartans’ Win Against Minford
< < Back toAfter a close first half, Seth Richardson scored three consecutive 3-pointers at the end of the second quarter, adding to a 12-0 Spartan run. The run allowed the No. 4 seeded Alexander Spartans to finally one up the No. 5 seeded Minford Falcons.
Richardson’s 17-point night and strong performances by teammates helped the Spartans hold the lead and defeat the Falcons 51-42.
“Seth started off kind of slow but he got a bucket early,” head coach Jim Kearns said. “When we had a timeout I got on to him a little bit and he came back getting 3 buckets in a row.”
Every Spartan put in the game tonight scored, with the majority scoring five or more points. Senior Kyle Howard contributed 11 points and Jake Weaver notched eight.
“Any kid put in the game tonight really stood out,” Kearns said. “I just can’t say enough about all of these kids.”
Alexander also executed an agressive defense, forcing Minford to 11 turnovers in the first half alone. The Spartans’ defense smothered the Falcons’ shooting. The Falcons shot 1 for 8 in the second quarter.
Jared Alley led the Falcons. He finished with 15 points on the night.
Alexander advances to the district semifinal. The Spartans will play No. 1 Valley on Sunday at the Convocation Center.
The Spartans plan to do what’s natural for them in Sunday’s matchup.
“We will do what we do,” Kearns said. “We’ll get in the gym and prepare on being solid on offense and defense before this Sunday.”
