DAYTON, Ohio (AP) – A southwestern Ohio college plans student and community activities building up to hosting the first general election presidential debate.

Wright State University held a “debate launch” this week with hundreds of participants at the student union, with speakers outlining plans for pre-debate educational and other efforts. The school is hosting the presidential debate Sept. 26.

The College of Education and Human Services is partnering with a PBS affiliate to create programs about the democratic process, and the “common text” to be read for next fall’s incoming freshmen will be “Pivotal Tuesdays,” by historian Margaret O’Mara. She also will lecture at Wright State on Nov. 2.

Teachers are offering debate-related courses, including on presidential debates and on the 2016 election.
