Ohio Softball made history breaking an 18-year losing streak against the University of Kentucky with a 1-0 win in the first game of Tuesday’s doubleheader.

In the first game redshirt junior, Savannah Dorsey, pitched a near perfect game only giving up one hit and no runs.

“We had played our regional against them sophomore year, we lost, and then we played them last year and we lost again and it feels really good to come back at them again,” Dorsey said. “I’m glad I got to do that again before I graduate as well as the seniors here. I’m glad they got to be here for that.”

Neither team could push any runs across in the first seven innings, so the game went to extras. Then in the eighth inning freshman Deanna Cole hit a walk-off single, winning the game for the Bobcats.

“Right after I got it and I ran it out, Coach J tackled me,” Cole explained. “Then I looked over at my team and could see all the excitement on all of their faces and I was just more happy about them being happy than anything.”

In game two, with Savannah Dorsey still on the mound for the bobcats, Kentucky made a comeback as freshman, Abbey Cheek, smacked a home run, putting up three runs for the wildcats in the first inning.

Danielle Steele relieved Dorsey in the sixth and managed to keep Kentucky from scoring. Then in the bottom of the seventh Ohio looked like it might send the second game  into extras as well. Mikayla Cooper put the Bobcats on the board with a one-out home run to make it 3-1.

Madison Claytor followed up Cooper’s home run with a base hit. However, Ohio’s rally stalled after that, and the Bobcats fell to the Wildcats 3-1 in game two.

Ohio will  travel to Ball State Friday for a three-game series.
