The Tony Award-nominated comedy, Moon Over Buffalo, will open at Zanesville Community Theatre this weekend.

Performances will be held on Friday and Saturday, July 15-16 and July 22-23 at 8 p.m. There will also be two Sunday matinees, on July 17 and 24 at 2:30 p.m. Moon Over Buffalo is being directed by Sheryl Wise, with Michelle Robison as Assistant Director and Jan Kiikka producing.

The play originally premiered in 1995 and marked the return of Carol Burnett to Broadway, in a role tailored specifically for her comedic talent. The play features a “play within the play” format, with lots of slapstick comedy and well-written farce. The Zanesville Community Theatre cast is made up many theatre veterans, including Greg Adams and Eileen Adams, as George and Charlotte Hay, a pair of fading stars who are just trying to make it through their repertory performances in Buffalo, N.Y. Charlotte and George’s daughter, Rosalind, is played by Jillian von Gunten. Her fiancé, Howard, a TV weatherman, is played by Kevin McCarthy. Jared Gantzer plays Paul, stage manager for the company and Rosalind’s ex. Rounding out the cast are Scott Robison as Richard, a lawyer who is courting Charlotte and Sarah Gantzer as Eileen, George’s one-night dalliance.
