COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) – Shoppers in Ohio are getting a three-day break from the state’s sales tax as students prepare to head back to school.

The state’s sales-tax holiday begins Friday and ends Sunday. The measure is aimed at helping back-to-school shoppers cut the cost of clothing and school supplies.

The tax-exempt period applies to clothing items that cost $75 or less. That would include shoes, jackets, uniforms and diapers. Classroom supplies and instructional materials priced at $20 or less also are exempt. Such items include book bags, textbooks, notebooks and pencils.

This is the second year for the sales-tax holiday, following the popularity of the tax break last summer.

Supporters say customers also buy other non-exempt goods while shopping during the holiday weekend.
