Ohio Soccer Wins Home Opener Against Dayton
< < Back to ohio-soccer-wins-home-opener-against-daytonThe Ohio women’s soccer team kicked off the season as they hosted the Dayton Flyers in their home opener at Chessa Field, a 2-1 win. The teams share an in-state rivalry and the match was full of action and both teams played a great game.
The first goal was scored by freshman midfielder Sydney Leckie assisted by Remi Eades just 10 minutes into the game. That was followed by a goal from junior midfielder Allie Curry on an assist by Bryce Hueber.
It wasn’t until mid-first half that junior Alexis Kiehl scored Dayton’s first goal on Ohio’s goalkeeper, junior Vanessa Cordoba, which brought the score to 2-1. Although there were no more goals scored during the remainder of the game, every player from both teams played with consistency and performed extremely well.
Ohio finished with an overall shot count of 17, outshooting the Flyers by five. Ohio also had seven corner kicks performed by senior midfielder Mollie Whitacre. Dayton ended with a total of six corner kicks.
A key player of the match was Cordoba, who played all 90 minutes of the game and ended with six saves and one goal allowed.
The Bobcats will continue their season with another home match at Chessa Field when they host High Point on Sunday, August 28 at 1 p.m.
