Praise, Prior Shootings In Ohio Officer’s File

COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) – Records show the Columbus police officer who fatally shot a black 13-year-old during an armed robbery investigation once helped save the life of a black boy the same age.
The Associated Press obtained Officer Bryan Mason’s personnel file through a public records request. It shows he has received high marks in performance evaluations and has been involved in other on-the-job shootings.
Officer Bryan Mason was cleared of any wrongdoing in his previous shootings. Those include the 2012 death of a man holding a person at gunpoint, two nonfatal shootings and the shooting of a dog that bit an officer.
Police say Mason shot Tyre King multiple times last week after the boy ran from investigators and pulled a BB gun that looked like a real firearm. Tyre’s family wants an independent investigation.
