Donald M. Gilmore, 42 and Zyon K. Gilmore, 20, both of Pageville Road, were arrested after an investigation into a “purse-snatching” that allegedly occurred on West Union Street near Depot Street, according to a release by the Athens Police Department.

Investigators received reports that a 70-year-old female Athens resident had been walking along the sidewalk when a man ran up behind her and grabbed her purse, according to the release.

“The victim was knocked to the ground, causing minor injury, before the man was able to get the purse free,” the release stated. “The man then ran to a waiting truck and fled the scene.”

Witnesses gave Officer Destry Flick descriptions of the vehicle and one witness was able to get a picture of the vehicle as it was driven away, the release stated.

“With the help of the victim, Officer Flick was able to track the victim’s cell phone, which was in her purse, to the area of (State Route) 682 and (State Route) 13 in Chauncey,” according to the release.

Officer Amelia Jenne responded to Chauncey and was able to locate a white GMC pickup truck with the two suspects inside.

Donald Gilmore is charged with second-degree felony robbery, and Zyon Gilmore is charged with complicity to robbery, also a second-degree felony.

Both are being held in the Southeastern Ohio Regional Jail.
