West Virginia Records 220,275 Early Voters, A Record
< < Back to west-virginia-records-220275-early-voters-a-recordMORGANTOWN, W.Va. (AP) – West Virginia’s secretary of state says a record 220,275 voters cast ballots during the state’s early voting period in the general election.
The 10-day early voting ended Saturday, three days before Election Day. The total includes reports from all of West Virginia’s 55 counties.
According to the secretary of state, 100,962 people voted early in this year’s presidential primary, also a record.
West Virginia has more than 1.27 million registered voters, with 45 percent Democrats and 31 percent Republicans.
In the 2012 general election for president, 150,666 West Virginians voted early, down slightly from 153,096 four years earlier.
Early voting totals this year include 98,547 Democrats, 81,263 Republicans, 613 Libertarians, 184 Mountain Party members and 33,173 ballots by voters with no party affiliation.
