The Ohio wrestling team traveled to Birmingham, New York to compete in the Bearcat Open Sunday. Out of the 20 Bobcats who competed in the tournament, six placed in the top six of each bracket.

Leading Ohio, sophomore Shakur Laney stayed undefeated for the season and placed first in the 125 weight class. The returning NCAA qualifier beat Brandon Cray, who was competing as unattached for Maryland University.

Redshirt junior Noah Forrider also remained undefeated and gave the Bobcats another champion with an overtime 3-2 win in the 141-pound finals against unattached Rutgers’ Mikey Van Brill.

The only other Bobcat to make it to the finals was sophomore Cam Kelly. At 133 pounds, Kelly fell by decision to Mark Crey of unattached Cornell, 9-5.

Donta McGee finished the day 4-2 and placed fourth in the 174-pound bracket. The redshirt freshman got pins in three out of his six matches. Bailey Faust finished fifth place in the 197 bracket, recording three pins. Rounding out the Ohio wrestlers who placed, heavyweight Zack Parker placed fourth with a 5-2 record in the tournament.

Arsen Ashughyan (174), Austin Reese (165), Zach Wilson (157) and Zach Hassan (133) all were one match away from placing.
