Ohio Wrestling Finishes Sixth at Navy Classic
< < Back to ohio-wrestling-finishes-sixth-at-navy-classicOhio Wrestling competed in the Navy Classic in Annapolis, Maryland all-day Saturday. The Bobcats finished disappointingly after only five out of the 14 wrestlers placed and six wrestlers went 0-2. Overall, the team finished sixth in team points behind Indiana University, Navy, Kent State University, Bucknell University, and Campbell University.
Sophomores and returning NCAA qualifiers, Shakur Laney (125) and Cameron Kelly (133), led the team with second place finishes. In the semifinals, Laney defeated Indiana’s Elijah Oliver, who was ranked 12th in the country according to FloWrestling. Laney ended up losing to 16th-ranked Nathan Kraisser from Campbell in the finals. Kelly started with a pin, tech fall, and decision in his first three wins. In the championship match, Kelly lost a close 5-4 match to Anthony Tutolo from Kent State.
Bouncing back from a tough 3-2 loss in the second round to Indiana’s Fletcher Miller, heavyweight Zack Parker won four matches, including two pins, to place third. In the consolation finals, Parker avenged his loss against Miller by winning 8-6 in overtime.
141-pounder Noah Forrider and 174-pounder Arsen Arshughyan were the only other Bobcats to place. Noah Forrider had the most matches of the day for Ohio and ended up 5th place with a final win against Tejon Anthony (George Mason) to place 5th. Arshughyan placed 6th with 3 wins and 3 losses.
Ohio returns back to the Convocation Center December 4th at 1 p.m. to wrestle Buffalo University.
